The Market Garden Project was a joint venture between a Rotary Club, Developing World Partnerships plus several businesses, organizations and individuals who shared our vision to help the less fortunate in the Developing World.
The purpose of this project was to make the Miezi Project self sufficient in fruit and vegetables as well as to generate a profit to be used to pay the staff of the model village. The farm has mango, papaya and banana trees as well as various vegetables growing in cultivated plots. Some of the land is still not under cultivation and the plan is to allow various village families to use this extra land to grow cash crops. The operation will be run as a cooperative with the local villagers marketing their produce collectively and paying for the use of the land with some of the profit.
Between the Miezi Project and the Market Garden Project twenty two people are employed. With the average family being seven people and the fact that a very high unemployment rate requires those working to help other family members these twenty two jobs actually support nearly one thousand people.
Upon taking possession of the land the salaries of the workers were doubled to ensure that they were earning a living wage.
